Society for Rehabilitation

Society for Rehabilitation’s mission is “Helping individuals with disabilities realize their potential by providing a full range of services and by nurturing their self esteem for future opportunities.”

The Society’s goal is “To provide individuals with disabilities comprehensive services to improve their quality of life, to enable them to use their mind and body to function and to learn to enjoy life.”

Cognitive individuals with developmental disabilities or traumatic brain injuries need appropriate services and care.

The Society with its Day Habilitation Program treats adults 22 years and older who suffer from the effects of developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, strokes and debilitating accidents.

The Society’s framework is to determine and respond accordingly to the wants and needs of the client. The Society’s current program supports adults with developmental disabilities as opposed to mental retardation.

The Society has implemented a client program that “wraps” services around what an individual wants and needs, unlike traditional service where the individual has to fit into what is available. The program is designed to empower and promote independence in a structured systematic and goal-directed setting, and is driven by the individual and provides restorative therapeutic intervention. Daily blocked schedules provide the basic structure to our program. The block schedules allow flexibility for meeting the specific interests and needs of the individual. The Society’s program allows individuals to choose the days and times they wish to participate. The major program components include educational/cognitive enrichment; functional/restorative; social/recreational; and personal enrichment.

CY Pres Award Dollars

Cognitive individuals with developmental disabilities or traumatic brain injuries need appropriate service and care.

Funds received from cy pres will allow the Society to expand its habilitation service and care to the more than 300 (estimated) individuals with developmental disabilities and traumatic brain injuries in northeastern Ohio who receive no care or service and are left with no chance of a normal life due to their disabilities. Our Habilitation program concentrates on individual needs and our treatment results in a positive impact on each client served.

The Society developed a marketing strategy that focuses on these individuals. It is the Society’s goal to initiate this strategy and serve all individuals regardless of their ability to pay.
