Muscular Dystrophy AssociationThe MDA provides help and hope to families and individuals who are affected by muscular dystrophy and related diseases. The 43 diseases in MDA's program include nine forms of muscular dystrophy, ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, Friedreich's ataxia and spinal muscular atrophy.MDA clinics are staffed by teams of top health professionals skilled in the diagnosis and medical management of neuromuscular diseases; clinic services may include evaluations for physical, occupations and respiratory therapy, selected diagnostic tests and genetic counseling. MDA's research program aggressively seeks cures and treatments and annually funds some 350 research projects worldwide. MDA's summer camp – which costs $800 per child – provides an unparalleled week of barrier-free fun for kids ages 6 to 17 who have a disease in MDA's program. Camp activities are designed for children who have limited mobility or use wheelchairs and include swimming, horseback riding, arts and crafts, talent shows and more. Cy Pres Award DonationMoney received from the Grange settlement will help fund MDA's life-enhancing programs and services, including financial assistance for purchase and repair of assistive equipment like wheelchairs, leg braes and communication devices; support groups; annual flu shots; and visits to MDA's network of hospital-affiliated clinics.website: http://www.mda.org/ |
