MADD Northeastern, Columbus, Southwestern, Ohio ChaptersMADD's mission is to stop drunken driving, support victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking. Drunk driving is the most frequently committed violent crime in our state, killing 486 people in alcohol-related traffic crashes last year (or 38% of all traffic fatalities).MADD, through its trained victim advocates, provides much needed victim and crisis support to drunken driving crash victims. Advocates have been specially trained to provide legal, medical and financial ramifications of a crash and direct support by helping them navigate through the criminal and civil justice systems. All services are free and are available 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Cy Pres Award DonationIn 2008, the government grant-funding that has provided the training, support and expenses associated with providing direct support to victims will be cut drastically. This generous donation will allow us to now be able to continue to meet the needs of victims of drunken driving crashes and continue to provide the support and resources to cope with the complexities of the legal, medical and financial ramifications. We can continue to have outreach programs with students and youth about the importance of making proper decisions when they face peer pressure, and about the dangerous consequences of impaired driving.
